622vgs runs Gliding Induction Courses (GIC) every weekend of the year. The GIC is a one day course, and most of our squadrons are allocated two days per year (you can find out when your squadron is booked on the left). Each time you visit you will progress through the GICs as shown below:

  • GIC1 (3 launches or 20 minutes) You will be walked around the aircraft, shown the local area from the air and learn how to pitch the aircraft Make sure you ask your instructor how the altimeter works
  • GIC2 (4 launches or 25 minutes) You will learn how to roll the aircraft and how to select an attitude Make sure you ask your instructor how the ASI works
  • GIC3 (5 launches or 30 minutes) You will learn how to yaw the aircraft, how to fly in balance and how to recognise the stall Make sure you ask your instructor how the slip ball relates to balanced flight

To be nominated for a GIC you will need to:

  • be at least 13 years and 3 months old
  • have parental consent to fly signed in your 3822 or RoS book
  • have no medical condition that would make flying unsafe for yourself or your pilot
  • attend the VGS in one of your squadron's allocated slots
