622vgs runs weekend Gliding Scholarship (GS) courses all year. We also run 3 one week residential courses every year. On the GS course each trainee will:

  • fly up to 40 launches
  • learn the primary and secondary effects of controls
  • learn to control the glider in straight and turning flight, and to prevent stalls
  • be able to take off, fly a circuit and land
  • demonstrate knowledge of the rules of the air and principles of flight

To be nominated for a GS you will need to:

  • apply to your squadron Commanding Officer
  • be at least 16 years old
  • have parental consent to fly signed in your 3822 or RoS book
  • be certified as medically fit by your GP on a RAF Medical Form 6424 which is valid for up to 2 years
  • be able to commit to attend every training day until you complete your course

On successful completion of the GS, graduating trainees receive wings to wear on their uniform:
